Greetings to Dear Glenn and family,

I admired Ingrid's fighting spirit.  Nature: Her love of the beauty in nature was evidenced when from her hospital window in Baltimore, she took photos of a spectacular sunset and shared it with others.  Kindness: She was persistent in sharing her  ONLY soursop fruit (sent by a sister) with me.  Beautiful memories and love of Ingrid will be forever cherished!  Nuff island hugs and luv to the family.

COMFORT: Let's hold on to John 16:22 "So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.

Dear Glenn and Mariette,

Our hearts are with you today as you mark the fourth year without the presence and love of Ingrid. 

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you as you remember her loss with sadness, and the warm recollections of wonderful times through many years together. 

Today we encourage you with the promises of Jesus to be with you always, to give you His peace, and to supply all your needs. And last but not least, that you’ll get to see Ingrid again, when the Life giver returns and the dead in Christ will be raised to everlasting life.

Started at CUC observing  her diligence  and smile as a business student  of Mrs. Kum.  Then continued at Metropolitan and visits with Glen  as a wife and mother while living in the Takoma  Park area. Still full of grace even while undergoing pain.  A quiet yet strong woman of faith.

I worked with Ingrid at G&O. We became friends early on when she first was hired. Over the years we had great lunches together and we both enjoyed shopping for bargains. I will always remember our great talks and many laughs. Heaven has a new beautiful angel looking down at us. Miss you my friend.

My first fond memory of Ingrid was way back when we were children and our families used to visit each other.

However, our childhood friendship was soon broken when, at an early age, she migrated to America.

Fortunately for me, I was happily reunited with her on my visit to Barbados where she, Glen and Mariette, so lovingly opened their home and embraced us with such great hospitality and warmth that the years spent apart seemingly melted away.

Thankfully, we continued to keep in touch when I returned to Trinidad and I enjoyed our back and forth correspondence; especially the picturesque images of her garden.

During her ailment, it was always my intention to bring a word of comfort to her but instead, I always left the conversation being more uplifted because she inspired me with words of wisdom and her tremendous faith in God.

She always would say, "We continue to trust and have faith like the little mustard seed because He can remove mountains that block our pathway".

Ingrid, my dear friend and cousin, will be deeply missed. Love to Marie and Glenn.

Dear Phillips Family, 
As a graduate student at Morgan State University the lovely Ingrid Phillips hosted several of her husband's students at their beautiful home for a summer cookout. Ingrid's kind spirit and hospitality was most apparent, she exceeded the graciousness and beauty often described by her husband, professor Dr. Glenn Phillips.    As student of Caribbean Studies, Ingrid and Glenn are examples of faith, love for family, love of community, honest achievement, and commitment to excellence.  During a 2018 trip to the Caribbean Historian's conference in Barbados, your husband shared loving memories of his family and your lives in Trinidad and Barbados. Ingrid touched so many lives and poured love into her family, for that we thank you. May God continue to comfort you. 

My memories of Ingrid blur, I think, because of the passage of time, but also because I know her from many different angles.  I was pretty much knee high to a grasshopper when she arrived on CUC/USC campus to study Business under the strict and stringent tutelage of my Mother, Lucy Kum.  Therefore, literally and figuratively, I could hide under my mothers skirts and observe her classes.  While Ingrid was quiet, I noticed her lovely smile, and that she was not intimidated by my mothers probing questions--something pretty hard for anyone!
Ingrid graduated in 1969 and went to work with my dad. My dad Charles loved every student, and listened to many a sob story on tuition payments, but he had a soft spot for the young ladies.  Blame me -- he had a daughter, not a son! So, when Ingrid worked with him,  it afforded me the opportunity to notice how efficient and hard working she was when I would sneak into the office.
Then she married Glen...oh boy!  Well, that was a "lagniappe" for me, because Glen, Dion and Sonja are children of one of my mom's best friends, Aunt Dorothy Boyce Phillips.  The same year Ingrid graduated, we spent almost the entire summer at GlenDionRose, the family home.  My mum and her fiend had a whale of a time, and to have my mum's student and my dads protegee marry "into the family" was also a milestone in my remembrances of Ingrid.
I knew that Ingrid and my dad had a special bond.  Lots of my mum's former students speak of her, and what she did for them, etc.  But for Ingrid, my dad was "the" one.  I did not realize how special until he died and Ingrid flew home to Trinidad for the service and spoke so beautifully and eloquently of my dad.  Yes, she was representing the Alumni association, but her speech was so personal, it touched me.  It was also wonderful that my "bro" Dion, her brother-in-law, could also be there.
Sleep  my dear Ingrid -- till we all meet again.  I'm sure my dad will have a big smile and hug just for you.  I know I will too.



My friend Ingrid was a strong, caring person.  She was my partner in crime for our church’s International Food Fest and could always be counted on to go above and beyond to ensure our win.  She was Super organized; whereas most people would agree to bring a dish of this or a pan of that, Ingrid always had her list neatly organized with exact food names with the exact amounts. She would even include the amount of extension cords, flags and other paraphernalia she was bringing.  And if we didn’t win-well her competitive spirit wouldn’t rest!

Ingrid was always a gracious host and made you feel well at home, at her home.  It was always enjoyable talking with Ingrid and Glenn about the old days, foods we used to eat, licks we used to get and places we’ve traveled.

I look forward to meeting her again when the ravages of this sinful world can no longer hurt her body or her spirit.  Sleep in sweet peace!

Dear Glenn and Mariette,

Our hearts grieve with yours at the loss of Ingrid, your beautiful, wonderful, smart, caring, joyful, well-travelled, antique-loving, God-fearing, family-loving wife and mother. 

It is difficult to summarize almost forty years of friendship we enjoyed with Ingrid. She was so brilliant and could always share knowledge on pretty much any topic. She was also witty and could tell the funniest stories and then laugh so  infectiously that you couldn’t stop laughing. The last time we saw her we were getting ready to travel to India and swapped stories of our experiences in that exotic land she was so fond of.

We have no words to accurately express our empathy for you during your incomparable loss. Nevertheless, we know that God sees you, understands your pain and is nearer to you than you can ever imagine. 

Our prayers continue to ascend on your behalf as they did for Ingrid while she fought valiantly to remain alive. And while we cannot explain why Ingrid was not allowed to remain longer with you, we trust God’s infinite wisdom and incomparable love for her, for you and for us. 

We know many days ahead will be filled with pain and questions for God. However, allow your faith in the almighty to give you the peace that transcends your present understanding, and remain captives of the blessed hope that Jesus will come again soon and make all things right. 

We look forward to the day when with you we can see Ingrid again and enjoy sweet fellowship once more. Until then, we encourage you with these words:

Our deepest sympathy to you both, Losing a wife and mother hurts no matter how old we are. Ingrid knew she was loved deeply by the devoted and attentive care you both gave her throughout her illness.  It is experiencing these times together  that love deepens and hearts are open to share and nothing is left that was not said. 
Ingrid went to sleep in peace awaiting her reunion with both of you.
God’s sustaining power and hope in the renewal of all things will keep you until that day. We will all be there for that reunion. There are many friends and family we plan to see again.

My Dear Friend, Ingrid. Such a kind, loving, passionate soul. Our friendship blossomed over 20 years just as the beautiful flowers she nurtured. From colleague, to mentor, to Sisterhood. My life has been enhanced by her grace.

I knew Ingrid as a student when we were at Caribbean Union College in Maracas Valley, Trinidad.   I remember her for the dignified way she carried herself: lady-like, reserved but friendly, always well groomed.  We are very saddened to have heard  of her passing.   Our deepest condolences to family and friends.

Aunty Ingrid was so very special, in so many ways. She was an amazing, thoughtful, intelligent and beautiful woman who had a heart of gold! Aunty Ingrid was not afraid to speak her mind.

My first memory of my Aunt was back in 1977, when we travelled to Trinidad with my Mum (Cynthia, Aunty's big sister) to see Mama, Pappie, Aunty Shirley, Aunt Hessie and the rest of the family. Some of my mum's siblings flew over from Canada and America others still lived in Trinidad. The adults had fun exchanging stories of living in Point and the children ran around in the yard. 

In 1983 my mum & I visited USA, we stayed with Aunty Ingrid and Uncle Glenn. Whilst we were there Aunty asked if I could stay with her... I would have stayed if my mum had agreed to it! 

My family and I were always welcomed at Aunty Ingrid's house, she would go over and beyond to make us feel at home; as that was her nature.  Our last visit, she insisted we take over her sleeping quarters. 
My youngest child Kyle was always an early raiser; he would jump out of bed and wake Aunty and Mariette up at the crack of dawn, but Aunty didn't complain. 

There were so many special times which I remember vividly. We shared the same birth sign, the same surnames slightly different spellings, our careers in Finance and we shared the love for travelling. 

Aunty Ingrid, you touched so many people's lives! You were truly a light that showed! 
It's so hard to believe you are no longer with us, your spirit lives on in all of our hearts. Gone too soon! 😥 💔

Cousin Ingrid would be remembered fondly by my family, Marlon, Kimberley, Katelyn, Kristian, Elsie and the Khans. She was very kind hearted, loving and a joy to be around.  She always took the time to join and celebrate with us on special occasions or holidays via Skype or social media , despite residing in Maryland. We really enjoyed our time spent with her and her family when we visited. Our condolences go out to Glen and Mariette, knowing that she would be surely missed but be comforted that we would meet again in the hereafter.       

We are missing the bright light that was my aunt Ingrid. 
Thankful for the quiet walks and time Vicki & I spent with her in Barbados. 
We continue to think of her often and know she is at peace. I believe my aunt lived a life without regret, taking time to enjoy small things that most would look past. I hope the birds continue to visit.
May God bring us all comfort knowing she is with him.

I  have been a part of Ingrid's life for 53  happy memorable years that began at Caribbean Union College (now USC) in Trinidad.   We became friends, then roommates living together in one of the faculty campus apartments.  

When Glenn, my dear cousin, joined the faculty I noticed that his visits to my home increased as his friendship with Ingrid blossomed.  Eventually, I was one of the bridesmaids at their wedding.  Ingrid was a true and loyal friend.  We were more like sisters as we both cherished each others friendship. No doubt about it, I will surely miss her presence here on earth. 

During Ingrid's illness prayers sincerely ascended as we asked God to take full control.  We have to accept His will, and give thanks for the splendid times we shared.  We must now keep faithful, and keep ready as we await that joyful resurrection morn and  Heaven at last... never to part again. 

Dear Glenn and Mariette: Our hearts grieve for you. We can only imagine the pain it is to lose your soul mate, wife and mother to your only daughter. May it help to know that friends far and near are praying for strength to endure and peace and comfort that only God himself can give. On this Easter day we remember the promise of a glorious resurrection. Death is not the end for the saints, with you we look forward to the promise of our Lord's return when all that was snatch from us will be restored. Blessings, peace and comfort  to you and family. We feel very sad that we did not see our sister Ingrid before she passed away and we know how sad you feel unable to have a farewell ceremony for her during this challenging time. Anyhow, we must remember that there is love beyond our headaches, tears and griefs. We have to take our griefs to Jesus, He will heal our wounds and suffering. He will renew our broken hearts to enjoy the pleasures, joys and happiness we found in family. The Lord will lift our burdens, heartaches and tears. Keep praying. Glenn and Mariette,
I'm sharing a pic of my thriving orchids with you.  Ingrid in her caring and loving way sent the sticks for my orchids without much life a year ago. Your cousin, Angie, had shared with Ingrid that I was struggling with my dying orchids. You see, she gave her sticks for me me to hold the stems when in bloom.  I thanked her, but honestly was not optismistic and did not have the same hope and vision as Ingrid.  Fast forward to today, my plants have been revived a year later. The irony is that the white orchid began to bloom being held up by Ingrid's sticks for the first time a couple weeks ago. Today, I look back at the hope and faith that she had when she sent the sticks to me. Today, we have the hope and faith that Ingrid too will live again. We will see her again.  Maranatha!

I first met Ingrid in 1979 when my family and I relocated to Maryland from New York. My husband Hugh and her husband Glen became friends  when Glen taught him Bible at Caribbean Union College in the summer of 1971.
 When were invited to their home one Saturday night for fun and refreshments, I learned that Ingrid was a Business Major just like I was and we talked about our experience  in working for several companies here in the USA. 
 Ingrid  became my financial adviser when my dad became ill and was forced into retirement by his employer in New York.  Her advice turned out to be very beneficial to my parents; and I and my extended family are for ever grateful to  Ingrid for that free financial advice.  
We became very close friends over the past two years during her illness.  We exchanged inspirational messages on a daily basis and encouraged each other hoping for a miracle. But as God would have it, the miracle did not come.  Her last text to me was " I pray that God will heal me, but if He does'nt, I pray that He saves me". I believe that God has saved her. So Glen and Marriette, Ingrid is safe in the arms of her Heavenly Father. May God Be with you and comfort you as you go through this period of your life . You will miss her presence, her lovely smile and her words of advice, but God is able to hold you together.

Ingrid,  my wife's (Judith) best friend and sister had a successful career before retiring with the expectation of enjoying the years ahead with her loving family and friends.  She had a kind and compassionate spirit, she enjoyed decorating, antiquing travelling and spending time in the Caribbean, especially  Barbados, Glenn's birthplace, which brought her great JOY. She loved walking on Dover beach picking up sea shells and fan art.
In my opinion, an untimely death,  I will miss her infectious smile, the delicious meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Words cannot express my sorrow,  I'll miss you sister. Rest in peace.

Dear Glenn, Mariette and Extended Family ---- Nuff Luv!

Sista Ingrid was my health journey partner and friend. We had many laughs  in her kitchen in reference to BITTER MELON.  She said that her sister in Trinidad told her " De bitta, de betta!!! She also sent me a text in January with those words. 

Still trying this and that concoctions , on Sunday, September 15 at 8:23 am, "Just had turmeric,  not too bad, I've had worse." On Sunday, December 29 at 8:01 am "Thankful,  yesterday I tried the baking soda-molasses combo, not sure about that stuff."--Lol! She always spoke her mind.

LOVED HER FAMILY 
Text on Wednesday,  March 4 at 12:03 pm "My sister from Atlanta has returned to help out and leaves this coming weekend." So thankful for her.

Ok, what main lessons have I learned from our interactions?  PERSEVERANCE  and  THANKFULNESS.

Ingrid was a lovely customer of mine for about 20 years. We shared lots of time and memories together. When the orchids at the shop withered, she took them home, revived them and brought them back more beautiful than before. I'm blessed to have known her beautiful spirit and may her soul rest in peace.

Dear Mariette and Glenn. On behalf of the McKenzie family, thank you for sharing these beautiful memories and pictures of Ingrid.  God blessed her with a  beautiful smile and  pleasant demeanor which brought a smile to anyone that came in contact with her.   She made the world a better place because of it. To my dear loving Aunt Ingrid. You were such a wonderful and beautiful lady, strong and proud, serving the Lord all the time.  I was so happy to spend some time with you and the rest of the family at my new home last year at Aunt Hesters funeral almost one year ago. I am so sorry that you were in so much pain. You were so special and outstanding in whatever you did. I really admired your outstanding achievements. You were truly an inspiration to all.  I am happy you were my Aunt. I have pleasant memories which I will always cherish of visiting you as a teenager and meeting you at family functions.  I looked for to seeing you every time you visited. I am still saddened about the passing of Ingrid.  I knew her for 20 years.  She had a huge impact on my professional career,  was a great mentor and a dear friend.  May her soul rest in perfect peace! 

I remember cousin Ingrid way back when I was a little girl, she often came from Trinidad to Grenada to visit her grandmother. My dad’s house ( her uncle) was the trading post where everyone had to come for daily lunch.  More than 20 years ago, I visited a friend in Maryland and while there I made several phone calls  to family members to find her number. My cousin did not hesitate to come find me and my friends and treated us to dinner at her home. Reconnecting again with her at the passing of our beloved aunt last year was truly a blessing.  She has fought a brave fight, she kept the faith , she has walked ahead of me. I am sure I will see her beautiful smile on Joy boulevard at the corner of hallelujah square in a place call heaven.  Rest In Peace my beautiful cousin. Rest Well. 

Auntie Ingrid was a loving aunt to me, I shared many a Thanksgiving and Christmas at her home when I lived on the east coast. Her willingness to entertain and make everyone feel at home has had an influence on me. She will be dearly missed by all who came in her path because of her warmth and grace! 

I worked with Ingrid for 15 years, she taught me to be proud, professional, and how to shop at consignment stores. She was a great mentor and a very beautiful soul. Thank you God for sharing her with me, and allowing me to experience such a positive role model and friend.
