Janice was born on August 25, 1927 in Richmond, Virginia to Art and Mildred Bell.
She had two sisters, Faye and June and one brother, Walter.
Janice moved from Richmond to Durham, NC where she attended Nursing School at the Watts Hospital and graduated in September of 1948. In the spring of 1948, she met the love of her life, Clarence Robert Wood, Jr. on a blind date. Janice and Bob were married on October 29, 1949. She served as a Pediatric Nurse before they moved to Silver Spring, MD and began a family.
She was the beloved mother to five children James, Robert, Brad, Stan and Susan, Grandmother (Nanny) to nine, Alison, Michael, Christi, Megan, Kelsey, Alysa, John, David and Brittani. Great Grandmother to two, Lilah and Wesley. And mother-in-law to Nancy, Laura, Andra and Charlie.
She stayed at home raising her children for many years until later working at the Fairland Nursing Home as a nurse.
Janice loved so many things in life…her family, friends, pets, music, gardening, reading, sewing, walking and feeding the wild birds, squirrels and fox. Two of her greatest loves were singing in the church choir and playing her Harp. She also was part of a neighborhood ladies’ luncheon. She and Bob travelled to Egypt, England, Scotland, Ireland and Alaska as well as many family camping trips including a cross country trip to Arizona.
She passed away in the same home where she raised her family and lived in for the last 56 years.
Janice blessed us in countless ways over her long life…her gentle, kind and sweet nature was a true gift to us all. She always saw the good in everyone she met. Life will never be the same without her and she will be missed beyond words.
