He was a graduate of Good Council High School (1968), he received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Dayton (1972) and his Master of Engineering Administration from George Washington University (1981). He worked 41 years business development in the federal civilian business sector contracting with government agencies such as the DHS, EPA, SEC, IRS, DOI, DOE,GA, and ATF before retiring to Hagerstown MD in 2013.
John was survived by his wife Lynda Bratton Williams; his son Justin M. Williams and daughter Jennifer M. Williams; his step-sons Rick E. Bratton and Brian J. Bratton; and his grandchildren Brooke N. Bratton and Ricky J. Bratton. John helped raise his children and grandchildren with patience, humility, and love.
John was a skilled carpenter, builder, gardener, historian, and storyteller. He was well known in his community for his prize-winning azaleas and transformative landscaping. John was recognized as one of the nation's foremost experts on antique woodworking planes with a collection containing pieces that dated back to 1760s. In his retirement spent his time working on a book recalling the history of Baltimore woodworking hand tools. The son of a master machinist and mechanic, John lived with a passion for understanding the way things worked, John will be remembered for his loving heart, magnetic personality, and charismatic smile. He will be missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
