

Jonathan Christian Gibbs, a beloved son, brother, musician, actor, and community activist, passed away on May 21, 2024, at his childhood home in Hyattsville, MD. Born on September 28, 1989, at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC, Jonathan was affectionately known to many as "JMONEY," an acronym he created which stands for Just Mindful, Outstanding, Nice, Empathetic, Youthful. His loving sister Tiffany named him Jonathan Christian.
Jonathan was the cherished son of Debbie Davidson-Gibbs and Christopher Gibbs and a devoted brother to his sister, Tiffany Gibbs Jackson, and her husband, Ryan Jackson. Jonathan was also a loving, devoted, and supportive father to his children, Karen, Jahlil, and Autumn.
Jonathan liked taking his children to various activities such as gymnastics, dance, roller skating, and movement classes. He loved roller coasters and going to amusement parks, often taking his children to Six Flags America where they could enjoy the rides and the waterpark.
Jonathan's early years were spent in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, where he cultivated his passion for the arts and activism and engaged in athletics as well as other activities. He went to Christian Family Montessori School (CFMS), Matthew Henson Elementary School and Robert Goddard Middle School, all located in Maryland. His keen athleticism was noted at an early age. In his formative years, he played T-ball, basketball, soccer, and was involved in gymnastics as well as track with the Humingbirds Track team. He was a fast runner and excelled at the long jump with the team. He loved dinosaurs, roller coasters and his favorite fruit-a mango.
Jonathan attended Takoma Park Academy and Northwestern High School and earned a Maryland High School Diploma in 2006. He attended Prince George’s Community College and Full Sail University. Over the years, Jonathan held several employment positions including work as: an ACT Team Case Manager and Certified Peer Specialist for Family Preservation Services; Advanced Youth Developer and Coordinator for Washington, D.C.’s Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services; Youth Advocate, Program Coordinator for the Columbia Heights Shaw Family Support Collaborative (CHSFSC); and as a paraprofessional at Kingsman Academy Public Charter School. He was part of the Public Allies program twice, including a placement with Miriam’s Kitchen in D.C. Jonathan liked mentoring youth and volunteered with several community programs including Deeds of Kindness and the Free Meal, Groceries, and Clothing program at St. Michael & All Angels Church because he was passionate about making a difference in the lives of others.
Recently, his career was marked by his incredible talent as a musical artist and actor. Jonathan played the steel pan, keyboard, drums, and guitar. He established Beat the Streets ENT, released multiple albums, and has performed, written, and produced over 50 songs, many in collaboration with other musical artists. ,
In 2016, Jonathan trained at the Theatre Lab in Washington, DC working with a core team of professional directors and actors. Ever since, he has been in several commercials and films, most notably: Dark Zero 48, Hope Lives (2022) an award-winning movie available on Prime Video, and Party Between the Realms 3 (2023). Jonathan can be seen as a primary character in many films and episodes produced by 4CornersTV, a streaming channel. He also participated in a reading sponsored by the Black Women’s Playwrights Group (BWPG).
Jonathan is survived by: his parents, Debbie and Chris Gibbs; his sister, Tiffany Gibbs Jackson, and her husband, Ryan Jackson; his children, Karen, Jahlil, and Autumn; his uncles and aunts: Winston & Linda Gibbs, Van & Terri Gibbs; Lenny Gibbs, Patricia Davidson Mayers; Wayne Davidson, Reggie & Marie Davidson, and his first cousins: Salaam Remi Gibbs, Winston, Jr. & Courtney Gibbs, Akila & Delano Estwick, Jason & Jen Mayers, Shanee & Harvey Barkley, Kiana & Duerys Marte; Joel & Brittany Davidson, Zaria Gibbs, and Rashawn & Anisa Gibbs.

The service took place on Saturday, June 1st beginning at 10 a.m. at Episcopal Church of Our Saviour located at 1700 Powdermill Rd. Silver Spring, Maryland (Off of New Hampshire Ave.).
The burial followed the service immediately and was be held at George Washington/Lebanon Cemetery close by on Riggs Road.
The repast began at 2 p.m. at the same location as the funeral service which is Episcopal Church of Our Saviour (ECOS) located at 1700 Powdermill Rd. Silver Spring, Maryland (Off of New Hampshire Ave.).
