Leora Maxine Belt, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024, at her home in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was known to her family as ‘Nana’ and will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a cherished friend. Her warm smile, kind heart, and love for her family and friends will remain in our hearts forever.
Leora was born on July 6, 1933, in Grantsville, Maryland and attended Northern Garrett High School in Accident, Maryland. After high school, she moved to Washington, DC and embarked on a fulfilling career at Western Electric. It was there that she met her loving husband of 43 years, Walter E. Belt, Jr.
Walter and Leora married on January 30, 1965. Throughout their marriage, she was a loving and devoted homemaker, taking pride in creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. Leora was passionate about tending to her flowers and cooking, often delighting her loved ones with her delicious fudge and deviled eggs. She was happiest when spending time with her family and friends, visiting the beach or the bay, going out for a delicious meal, eating crabs, or simply relaxing at home. Leora cherished these moments and created lasting memories with her family and friends.
Leora is survived by her beloved daughter, Lori Lawrence and son-in-law, Troy Lawrence. She was a cherished grandmother to Holly, Brooke and Ryan Lawrence. Leora's memory will always be treasured by her extended family and friends.
Leora was preceded in death by her loving husband Walter E. Belt, Jr., father, Ellsworth C. Meyers, mother, Catherine Brooks and step-father, James R. Brooks.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Marylandon Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. A church memorial service will be celebrated at the Inter-Faith Chapel, 3680 S. Leisure World Boulevard, Silver Spring, Maryland on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
