Louise Matthews Schutz, 96 years of age, passed away on March 3, 2024, peacefully in her sleep. She is now reunited with her husband, Col. J. Logan Schutz who preceded her. The daughter of a colonel in the army, Louise lived in many locations throughout the United States and several foreign countries as her father and husband’s military deployments evolved. A great traveler, she also took many vacations all over the world with her husband. She is predeceased by her parents, Marjorie and Col. Frederick Matthews, and her son, Frederick Schutz. For many years, Louise was an ardent member of the College Park Garden Club and the Saint Andrews Episcopal Church. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Hayes (13 years old), her daughter, Marian Elsasser, and son Logan Schutz, to whom she was a perfect Mom and friend. She has four wonderful and loving grandchildren: Amy Eways, Allison Gion, Theodore, and Matthew Elsasser in addition to seven great grandchildren: Colton, Landon, Victoria, Isla, Robert, Teo, Kai, and a great granddaughter who is soon to be born. Louise traveled widely with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, including over 20 years of summer vacations in Ocean City, MD. Louise and her husband Logan were avid University of Maryland fans and supporters. They hardly missed a home game since 1965 for football and men’s and women’s basketball, often traveling great distances to cheer for the Terps at tournaments, championships, and bowl games. She enjoyed collecting Maryland Terrapin “mementos” and unique jewelry. She will be buried alongside her husband and down the hill from her parents at Arlington National Cemetery at a future time. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 4512 College Ave., College Park, MD 20740 or Montgomery Hospice. Donations can be made online or by calling 301-921-4400.
