Lucrene Brezier, 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on April 23 in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was born on October 11, 1933, in Petit Trou de Nippes, Haiti, to Ulysse Binot and Meprisanne Brezier.
Lucrene spent most of her early years in her hometown, where she gave birth to three daughters. Tragically, all three of her daughters passed away during early childhood.
In time, she moved to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where she found comfort and a sense of safety. It was there that she met Serge, and together they were blessed with their daughter, Guilene Brezier, who remained her devoted and loving child throughout her life. Lucrene worked as a personal chef in a doctor’s office, where her cooking was so loved that she remained there for over 20 years.
Lucrene was the embodiment of love, humor, and compassion. She built a strong and caring community around her and believed deeply in the importance of cooking not only as a skill, but as a way to nourish and care for others. She shared this knowledge with her daughter and many others.
She had a joyful spirit and a gift for making people laugh, often using humor to lighten the burdens of those around her. Lucrene enjoyed singing, cooking, solving puzzles, and dancing. Her favorite color was light blue, she had a charming love for bubble wrap, and she took pride in growing her own food. She stayed closely connected to family and friends, always reaching out to loved ones both across the United States and back home in Haiti.
In every sense, Lucrene was an “anchor” , a source of strength, love, and unity who brought people together.
Lucrene was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysse Binot and Meprisanne Brezier; her brothers, Olga Binot, Gabart Binot, Raoul Binot, and Guerlate Binot; and her sister, Clarisse Binot.
She is survived by her sister, Jeannine Binot of Florida; her beloved daughter, Guilene Brezier; and her extended family, including Cedric Dubreuil, Laurent Dubreuil, Christian Dubreuil, and Coralie Jean-Claude. Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Lucrene relocated to the United States, where she spent the remainder of her years surrounded by the love and care of her family.
