On April 13, 2026 at 10:05 p.m., Lydia passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91, shortly after sharing heartfelt goodbyes with her beloved family. She will be remembered as a devoted servant of Christ, a beloved and caring pastor’s wife, a loving mother, and a generous grandmother.
She is survived and dearly missed by her four children, Jane, Betty, Faith, and Chang; her thirteen grandchildren, Alexander, Zachary, Victoria, Sarah, Samuel, Benjamin, Faith, Bethany, Pearl, Ruth, Nicholas, Grace, and Hope; as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Pastor Andrew Shen.
Lydia was born in China and lived in many places around the world, including Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, before eventually settling in the United States. She faithfully served alongside her husband in ministry for over 50 years. She had an incredible gift for languages, learning the languages and dialects of the places she lived and served, and was able to recall them even shortly before her passing.
She loved to sing and play the piano and shared her talents with her children, her church community, and residents in her senior home. Above all, she had a deep relationship with the Almighty and Most Holy God. She found great joy and purpose in serving Him throughout her life and now rejoices in His presence for eternity.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. (viewing at 9:30 a.m.) on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kin On Health Care Center for their care and compassion throughout Lydia's palliative treatment.
