Unfortunately I didn't know Martha as well as most of you, as I was doing the Airline thing when she became a part of the BCCRS family. I did have the good fortune to interact with her over the years at various Squad functions and found her pleasant, actually fun to be around. Once Martha found out that I was a Pilot her greeting was always, "Hello Flyboy how ya doing?".

Sometime in the late seventies my brother-in-law John Barnhard suffered a serious heart attack while working at Army Map Service and BCCRS responded with the Medic Unit, and transported him to Suburban where Martha was the ER Nurse in charge when he showed up. Apparently John Barnhard had coded at least once enroute, and the rest is in Martha's own words. John was on the hospital treatment table and apparently was going into cardiac arrest again. Martha with paddles in hand says " You son-of-a-bitch, you're not coding in my Emergency Room". John Barnhard lived another thirty or more years after that incident. Thanks to Mad Martha's intervention.. During this same incident my sister Franny showed up after having been notified about John's attack, and was desperate to see him. Whoever was manning the desk was giving my sister a hard time about going back to see John , requiring a bunch of additional information which could have been obtained later. Martha comes out of the ER hears the conversation, and as only Martha could do says, "Mrs. Barnhard please come with me", and escorted her to John's bedside. I don't think that endeared her to whoever was working the desk, and I don't think that was high on Martha's list of concerns. After that time there were several Crab Feasts where Martha, Franny and John were able to reunite and retell the story. To say that Martha was a take charge person would be an understatement

Martha was my friend. She was smart and funny and a wonderful person. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Martha you were my best friend for almost sixty years.  We supported each other through all the ups and downs in life over those years. You were my rock. My "go to" person whenever times got hard. You were always there with comfort and support.

I will never forget all the fun we had through the years. Lots of crazy stuff that most wouldn't believe if we told them. Like that night we toppled the Christmas tree at the Bethesda Elks. That was a classic.

Now I've lost my partner in crime and I feeling so lost and alone. Godspeed Martha. Say a good word to St. Peter for me so hopefully I'll get in when it's my time. Then we can start up our Shenanigans once again.

I have known Martha for 47 years. We met when I was working at Suburban Hospital. What an amazing nurse and friend she was. Love you girl and until we meet again rest in peace.

Very sad news of Martha 's passing.  I worked with her at Suburban Hospital back in the 80's. She was one hell of a supervisor. She could get you to work  anytime and go anywhere in that Hospital. Wonderful memories. She will be missed.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Martha's family.  She will be fondly remembered by the Mexico State Society as a stalwart supporter and one of the Diva's at our conferences.  The world has lost an intelligent and hard working lady.  Bendiciones a la familia.

Martha was one-of-a-kind.  I knew her for 47 1/2 years. Life is not gonna be the same without her as she always could make me laugh. We had fun working together and good times and bad..  She will be deeply missed.
