

Martha Victoria Hilton, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away on December 14, 2025. Martha was born on October 8, 1949 to Katherine Rebecca Rankin (Reynolds) and Robert Benjamin Rankin in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She moved to Maryland at an early age and lived there until her passing.
Martha graduated from Springbrook High School in 1968 and from the American University Nursing Program in 1980. She worked as a nurse at Suburban Hospital for 26 years, Holy Cross Hospital for 12 years, and at Young America Works DC Charter School. Martha was appointed to the Montgomery County Fire Rescue Commission chairing the EMS committee for five years. Martha had a love for both cats and dogs and rescued many of them over the years. She loved nothing more than to help animals in need of shelter.
Martha was a member of several service and historical organizations that included the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society Descendants of American Farmers, Christopher Columbus Society, Order of the Eastern Star, Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad Alumni Association, Cabin John Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of Union Veterans, Silver Square, National Society United States Daughters of 1812, Frederick MD Elks Lodge #684 and Emounah Freemason Lodge #34.
Martha is survived by her sister Anne Hill-Fessenden (Thomas) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, nieces Carolyn Consoli (Angelo) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Jennifer Reinert (Michael) of York, PA, three great-nephews, Angelo and Nicholas Consoli and Steven Ruffatto Jr, two great-nieces, Katherine Consoli (Fahad) and Callie Ruffatto (Jayden), beloved roommate, John Meerschardt, cousins, Jimmy Capell (Sharon), Jay Capell, and Kathy Eaglin (Roger), step-son Brian McAllister (Jaime) and step-daughter Stacy Furlong (Tim) who will never forget the love she brought to their lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Hilton, brother-in-law Thomas Fessenden, and cousins Marykay & Robert Capell, Robert “Bobby” Capell Jr. and David Capell.
A visitation will be held at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral home, located at 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. after the visitation. A repast will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Martha’s memory to The Big Purple Barn (www.thebigpurplebarnbowie.org) and Friends of Anne Arundel County Animals (www.faacac.org). Nurse Martha, Mother Martha, Aunt Martha, sister, co-worker, family and forever friend will truly be missed and never forgotten.
