She was born on March 25, 1928, in Punxsutawney, PA to Olive Himes and Harry Elias McGee. She survived a difficult childhood, tuberculosis and cancer – twice – and built a life that she chose for herself. She fought hard until the end.
Martha graduated from Punxsutawney High School and completed a year of business school before going to work for the electric company, Penelec. She married Louis Woodring in 1956, and they eventually settled in Silver Spring, MD. They had a wonderful life together with great friends, bridge, bowling and boating. She completed beauty school in 1961 and worked as a beautician in local shops, from her home, and then for over 25 years at the National Lutheran Home in Rockville, MD, retiring at age 79.
Martha loved with her cooking – crab soup, fried green tomatoes, meatballs, pork and sauerkraut and amazing Christmas cookies. She worked hard both on the job and in the home she and my dad made together. And she gave endless hours to volunteer with the Northwood Woman’s Club and Montgomery County Multiple Sclerosis Association.
Martha was greatly loved by her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lou, almost exactly eight years ago, her parents, siblings Shirley, Gene and Paul, and grandson, Joey. She is survived by daughter Melissa Rosenberg, son-in-law, Jim Rosenberg, her grandchildren and their spouses, Sam Rosenberg (Maggie) and Hannah Boyd (Bobby), and great grandchild Briar, the apple of her eye.
A service will be held on October 12, 2025, at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home in Silver Spring, MD, with Visitation at 10am, Service at 10:30am followed by burial at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville, MD.
