Marvin was born in the small town of Effingham, Kansas on February 25, 1929. He grew up on the family farm and attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse. He remained a Kansas resident until graduating from Kansas University and ultimately joining the U.S. Army.
Marvin moved to Washington, D.C. in the early 1950’s. He attended Christ Lutheran Church, where life-long friendships were made and where he met and married Trudy. All four of their children were born in the Washington, D.C./Maryland area and were baptized at Christ Lutheran Church.
Marvin’s long and distinguished career as an executive with the federal government took him and his family across the country and the world including Greece, California, and Massachusetts. Marvin and the family always returned to live in Maryland between the moves and called it home; finally staying there permanently in 1979.
Marvin will be remembered as a kind and considerate man of few words. A true gentleman and scholar, he loved history, reading, crossword puzzles, golfing, and traveling. He enjoyed personal travels, trips with Trudy, and trips with the family in the U.S. and abroad. He was dedicated to being active in the church and spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife Gertrude “Trudy “ (Larson) Wehking; their four children - Janet (Tom) Mullen, David (Lisa) Wehking, Linda (Doug) Dye, Carol (Greg) Papillo; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers - Alvin Wehking and Glenn Wehking. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Clara (Wahaus) Wehking, brother Kenneth Wehking, and sister Elsie (Wehking) Wessel.
A memorial service will be held at The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew, 15300 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. A light reception will follow.
