Mary Therese "Terri" Bovello Voelkel

On Friday, October 29, 2021 Mary Therese (Terri) Bovello Voelkel of Silver Spring, MD, passed away unexpectedly. She was the 4th of 11 children, born December 23, 1954 to Joseph B Bovello, Jr. and Mary C. Hampson Bovello, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Richard Voelkel, her brother and best friend, John Bovello, and her loving niece Suzi Strauss. She is survived by her loving daughter, Maria Lillian Voelkel of Silver Spring.

Terri’s gift was in helping others, both in her personal and professional life. Working in Human Resources, she excelled at building and maintaining strong relationships with all levels of any organization. She particularly enjoyed building leadership programs, and seeing other team members succeed. She also enjoyed negotiating in any environment, whether on a large scale with manufacturing companies in California, or within a financial firm in the Washington, DC area.

With everyone she met, and everything she did, Terri was competent, practical and straightforward. She would approach every situation looking to provide what resources she had, or finding resources if needed, no matter who had asked for help. She was devoted to her whole family, especially her daughter, and all her nieces and nephews. She went to as many of their activities as she could and loved being with them. She enjoyed trips with her daughter to Italy, Paris and New York. She sent cards and gifts to each person for every birthday and other special occasions. Outside of family, Terri enjoyed being a shadow coach for the Washington Nationals and the Washington Football Team.

In addition to her beloved daughter, Maria, Terri leaves many who mourn her passing: Aunts: Joanne Wasel, and Janet Hampson. Siblings: Kathy Bovello (Joan Lee), Joe Bovello (Bunnie), John’s wife Kathleen Mayer Bovello, Tim Bovello (Ron), Joanne Strauss (Brian), Maureen Bovello, Patty McHugh (John), Maria Hippchen (Peter), Marian Bovello (Marvin), and Robert Bovello (Jeannie). Nieces and nephews: Amy Vecchiarelli; Patrick Bovello (Melissa); Debbie Byerly; Joe Silverman (Nicole), David and Adam Silverman; Christine Jelinek (Stephen); Stephanie Mair (Claudio); Mary, Julia, Michael and Nicholas Hippchen; Katrina, Trisden and Kyra Bovello. Great nieces and nephews: Ashlee Bovello, Sean Michael and Ryan Vecchiarelli; Matthew, Ryan and Brooke Byerly; Gia Silverman; Zoey and Brooks Silverman; Lily, Stephen, Annie, Olivia, Abby, Chloe, Katie and Ben Jelinek; Alex and Adriana Mair.
