Maryam was born November 15, 1943 to Batul Samizadeh and Ali-Akbar Beyzaii in Shiraz, Iran. Sadly, her father, Ali-Akbar, passed away before her birth. Maryam was lovingly raised by her mother, grandmother, aunt, and three uncles.
After graduating secondary school, Maryam attended Pahlavi University in Shiraz, where she studied economics. She continued her education by attending University of Southern California and earned her master’s degree in economics in 1970. Maryam returned to Iran, where she taught at Economic and Social Sciences University of Ghazvin Iran, where she met her former spouse, Farhad Mamdouhi. Though this relationship wasn’t permanent, they did have three daughters together and remained friendly afterwards. She continued her education at SUNY-Albany and earned a second master’s degree in education from Loyola Marymount.
Maryam was an active and well-respected member of the Baha’i Faith. She taught Kindergarten and second grade for many years, while also caring for her aunt and opening an assisted living facility in her home, which she ran for 20 years.
Maryam is survived by her three daughters, Yassi Marshall, Nazie Chung, and Sarah Cryor; her three sons-in-law, whom she treated as her own, Graeme Marshall, Will Chung, and Jon Cryor; her five grandchildren, Isabel Marshall, Kirsten Marshall, Sophia Chung, Cyrus Chung, and Genevieve Cryor; and her cousin whom she thought of as a sibling, Jamshid Afnan.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 11th, at 11:00AM at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home 11800 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, Maryland, followed by interment at 1:00PM at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, MD. There will be a Celebration of Life and luncheon following the burial at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD.
