13 July 1930---24 February 2026
The daughter of Russian immigrants, Millie grew up with her older brother Nelson and younger sister Sylvia, residing in Washington DC and living above the corner grocery store that their father and mother owned.
Millie attended Central High school and met her soon to be husband, Sidney Maites when she was 16 years old. At 18 she got married and at 21 they began their family. Millie and Sidney settled in Silver Spring Maryland close to family members.
By the age of 27 she had her three children (Gary, Francine, and Alan) and began her life as a stay at home mom. Family was her biggest joy. Throughout the years, she was a volunteer in her community, she worked the polls during elections, she was a member of the 100 club and volunteered at Holy Cross Hospital.
Born and raised in Washington DC, Sidney’s job brought them to New York in 1974, and they moved with their son Alan to Merrick, Long Island. Here she lived a lovely life, making new friends and enjoying a new environment. After Sidney passed in 1978, Millie moved back to Silver Spring, Maryland. She worked at the Jewish Bond office and then at the Hebrew Academy of Washington DC.
After being widowed for 10 years, she met her second love, Bernie Kipperman, whom she married in 1988. They had 25 fantastic years together until he passed in 2015. Millie took comfort in her third love, Lenny Maites. For the last 10 years, they shared a beautiful love and connection in their twilight years.
Her love of games was infectious! From card games with her children and grandchildren to a good game of rumikub. For decades, she played canasta and Mahjong several times a week with life long friends.
In the end, Millie found solace listening to show tunes and Frank Sinatra. She was filled with love and anyone whose life she touched remember her for her kindness, bright smile and her keen sense of humor.
Millie is survived by her children Gary Maites (Patrice), Alan Maites (Kim), Francine Meckler (David); her grandchildren Jamie Maites, Michael Maites( Danielle), Sydney Meckler (Catherine), Liza Meckler (Tyler), Sara Maites (Grant), Ellie Demmel (Jared); her six great-grandchildren, Asher, Cameron, Trevor, Ara, Stella, and Ciara; her many nieces, nephews and cousins.
