Norma Jean Vider was born Norma Jean Lane in Oil City, PA on July 1, 1927. She was the only child of parents Clarence and Ila Lane. Norma, at age 94, died peacefully in her sleep and went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2021. She is survived by her two children Claudia Shook (Doug) and Steven Vider (Cheryl), four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces, and great nieces and nephews.
Norma had a zeal for life and was quite the social butterfly. For most of her career, she worked as a bookkeeper, but her real passion was being a domestic engineer and her love of music, especially playing the piano, organ, and singing with a local singing group, New Dimensions. She also brought laughter and smiles to others as an amateur clown entertaining nursing home residents, participating in parades, and visiting children. And let’s not forget that she took belly dancing lessons and ballroom dancing lessons. There were many an evening she and her lifetime husband, Jim, would dance the night away and the kids would have to check up on them when they missed their curfew! Norma would also amuse those around her with her happy childhood memories of her life in Oil City and Bradford, PA, El Paso, TX, and finally Adelphi, MD where she and Jim lovingly raised their children.
Family visitation is Wednesday, November 10 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Hines Rinaldi Funeral Home in Silver Spring, MD. A short graveside service is Saturday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Baptist Church in Buckingham County, Virginia. Dinner will follow at the home of Steven and Cheryl Vider.
