

Dr. Premala Edwards Brewster-Wilson, Ph.D., L.N., C.N.S., C.C.H., passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 21, 2024, at the age of 89 in her Silver Spring, MD home. A pioneering researcher, educator, and healer, Dr. Brewster-Wilson dedicated her life to advancing science, health, and the well-being of her community. Her remarkable career spanned multiple fields: she worked as a researcher for Monsanto, served as a civil servant for the Department of Defense, taught as a university professor, and ultimately founded the Institute of Preventive Medicine and Nutrition. She was a respected Clinical Nutritionist and Classical Homeopath who spent her final years providing compassionate care to patients seeking alternative remedies.
Dr. Brewster-Wilson’s journey began in India, where she was awarded a prestigious Fulbright scholarship, allowing her to pursue her studies in the United States. She earned her Ph.D. from Cornell University and later became a beloved professor at the University of Maryland before transitioning to her private practice. Her work touched the lives of thousands over her more than 40 years in practice, and her commitment to integrative health set a new standard in preventive medicine.
A woman of deep faith, Dr. Brewster-Wilson was a devoted member of Wallace Presbyterian Church in Maryland. She was actively involved in the South Asian Christian community of the Greater Washington, D.C. area, lending her wisdom and leadership to countless initiatives. Beyond her professional and spiritual commitments, she found joy in her garden, where she lovingly cared for her flowers and plants. Her prized banana trees were a treasured reminder of her childhood and roots.
Dr. Brewster-Wilson’s legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched. She is survived by her son, Ravi; stepson, Theodore Wilson II (and his wife, Crystal); stepdaughter, Premala Jones (and her husband, Kevin); brother-in-law, Vinod Ghildiyal; sister-in-law, Esther Edwards; nieces, Jaya Ghildiyal, Karuna, and Anugraha Edwards; nephews, Mark and Dileshu Edwards; step-grandchildren, Theodore Wilson III, Jaya-Naomi Sparks, Chase, Brock, Micaiah, and Reed Jones, Preya Coats, and Ariana Scott.
Dr. Brewster-Wilson will be remembered not only by her family but by her patients, colleagues, and the countless individuals whose lives she enriched through her decades of compassionate care and groundbreaking work.
