Rebecca Almazan died peacefully at the home of her daughter on June 29, 2018 after a seven-year illness of Alzheimer’s. Rebecca was born on Valentine’s Day, 1935 and always thought it was a wonderful way to celebrate two special days. She was born in San Antonio, Texas to parents, Juan and Emilia DeLeon. Married for 59 years to her devoted husband, James, Rebecca lived in Maryland for 23 years raising their daughters. She was a clinical microbiologist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center until 1993. Upon retirement, she returned to San Antonio in 1993 where she became a prolific and noted visual artist. In addition to her husband she is survived by daughters Yvonne Almazan and Selene Almazan (Joe Altobelli); grandchildren Joseph Altobelli (Lauren), Analise Altobelli and David Altobelli. Surviving siblings: Alice West, Pedro DeLeon (Vikki), and Richard DeLeon (Sylvia) and additional loving family, including nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service on July 9th , 11am at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home 11800 New Hampshire Ave. Silver Spring, MD 20904. Reception to follow. Interment private.
