

It is with great sadness and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald J. Grill (Ron) of Silver Spring, MD on January 15, 2024, at the age of 86. Ron was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Alois and Barbara Grill. After graduating from Oshkosh High School, he earned a Bachelor of Physics and Mathematics from Wisconsin State-Oshkosh, a Master of Science in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin, and a Master of Science in Public Administration from George Washington University. While in college, Ron served as President of the Oshkosh College Men’s Club. He was a proud veteran, after serving in the U.S. Army National Guard for approximately two years. For the next 28 years, he worked in various roles at the Department of Justice/ Immigration and Naturalization Service. He was the Director of Communications and Electronics when he retired in 1994.
Ron will be remembered for his sense of humor and witty sarcasm. He had many hobbies, including trading in the stock market and developing investment models (GRINDEX), horseback riding, polo, gardening, playing horseshoes on the regulation horseshoe pit he built in his back yard, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing pickleball, before it became a well known sport, and he won multiple pickleball medals in the Senior Olympics with his Leisure World friends.
Ron was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his three daughters, Kathryn Grill Graeff of Howard County, MD, Lori Peterson (Dewey) of Brookeville, MD, Amy Spenski (Rick) of Greensboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, Jessica Arnold (Rick) and Carly Graeff, Melissa and Sarah Peterson, Bailey and Mitchell Spenski; one great-grandchild, Lillian Arnold; one brother, Thom Grill; two sisters-in-law, Betty Grill and Jean Grill, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Ron was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Grill (79), brother Dennis Grill, and his parents, Alois and Barbara Grill.
