Ruth “Rincy” Alice Levy Pollack, born in 1935, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 8. She married the love of her life, David, in 1959 and together they shared a beautiful journey filled with love and happiness. Rincy was a devoted and caring mother to three children and a doting grandmother to seven grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. She found true bliss in baking their favorite treats, cherishing moments hearing about their lives, and simply spending quality time with them.
Growing up in Arden, Delaware, Rincy’s childhood was enriched by her father's engineering career at Dupont and her mother's passion for gardening and sewing. Her love for music and acting bloomed early, and she took part in numerous piano recitals and starred in several plays and musicals throughout high school and college. She also found her calling in journalistic pursuits, and was editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper and editor of the University of Delaware newspaper. In her academic pursuits, she earned a BS in Chemistry from the University of Delaware and later an MA degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland.
Ruth's career took her to Washington DC, where she worked in the public relations department at the National Bureau of Standards, translating scientific papers into accessible language for the public. Her dedication and passion for communication was rekindled after raising three children, and she turned her attention to the field of medical services where she worked at Shock Trauma Hospital (Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems) and the American Trauma Society, making valuable contributions to public relations in the medical community.
Outside of her professional achievements, Rincy found her true calling in nature. She spent countless hours outdoors, taking long walks in the woods behind her home and savoring the beauty of scenic landscapes, often accompanied by a furry companion. Her love for nature led her to volunteer at Brookside Nature Center for over a decade, where she enjoyed working in the library, with the annual Butterfly Show, and the annual Holiday Show.
Rincy’s vibrant and unyielding spirit encompassed not only her personal life but also radiated throughout her community. Her deep involvement in the Maryland Jewish community began with her cherished affiliation with the Shaare Tefila Congregation of Silver Spring and later flourished at Temple B’nai Shalom of Olney. Among her fondest passions were the bonds of sisterhood and the enriching connections of chavurot. The resonating melodies of prayer songs held a special place in her heart, consistently filling her with immense happiness.
She was also a member of the Leisure World Advisory Committee and served as the editor of the Leisure World newsletter, keeping her community informed and connected.
Rincy Pollack leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to her family, friends, and community. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, David, her three children, Willa Ratner (Jerry), Matthew (Audrey), Jonathan, and her adored grandchildren, Erin Miller (Aaron), Zachary, Noah, Kyle Ratner, Jackson Ratner, Lily, and Maddy.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, our dear Rincy.
Funeral services for Rincy Pollack will be held on Friday, August 11 at 10 a.m. at Judean Memorial Gardens in Olney, MD. She will be laid to rest following the service.
