On September 16, 2018, Ruth Romaine Boyd Wise, passed away peacefully, surrounded by angels. Born in Washington, DC on February 26, 1918, Ruth lived 100 remarkable years. She was the beloved wife of the late James Clinton Wise and a devoted Mother to James C. Wise II (late Carol), Sharon L. Legere (late Robert), and Daniel V. Wise (Judith). Proud Grandmother of James C. Wise III, John V. Wise, Tracy L. Lezcano, Dana E. Wise, Erik D. Wise, Nathaniel V. Wise, and the late Benjamin Wise. Ruth had a large circle of family and friends to love, including 8 great-grandchildren.
Ruth graduated with highest honors from St. Patrick’s Academy of Washington, DC, where she received the “Miss Courtesy” award from the school and served as a class officer in each grade. After graduation and marriage, Ruth settled and raised her family in Silver Spring, MD. Ruth was a dedicated government employee serving both the State and Treasury Departments, finishing her thirty-five-year, career at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory in Silver Spring, MD. Her professionalism and skills were sought out by consecutive U.S. Navy admirals; she earned many performance awards before retiring in 1980.
Besides her family and friends, Ruth loved to travel and visited much of Europe; including, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. She was an accomplished golfer and a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins. Ruth was a faithful Catholic who believed in the power of prayer and that you could “kill them with kindness.” She will be sorely missed as our Mother, our Grandmother, our Aunt, our friend, or rather, our Angel on Earth.
On Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10am, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 12319 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20904. A reception to receive family and friends will follow at Hines Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20904 from 11:30am – 1:30pm. Interment private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
