

Tomiko May Fukuda
May 3, 1922 – October 11, 2019
Tomiko Fukuda was born on May 3, 1922, in Santa Cruz, California, and passed away peacefully, at age 97, on October 11, 2019, in Silver Spring, Maryland. In 1943, Tomi married Manabu Fukuda during their World War II internment at the Colorado River Relocation Center in Parker, Arizona. In 1945, after they were relocated back to California, Tomi and her family later moved to Maryland in 1955, where she resided for the next 64 years. During that time, Tomi raised 3 children and had become a 47-year breast Cancer survivor and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She participated in various cultural and religious celebrations throughout the Washington, DC, area; and, in her later years, enjoyed crocheting, solving word puzzles, and the companionship of her Shih Tzu, Keni.
Tomi is survived by her daughter, Aileen; son, Glen; daughter-in-law, Diane; son-in-law, Calvin; grandson, Jesse; granddaughter-in-law, Chelsie; grandson, Liam; and great-grandson, Elian James. Tomi was predeceased by Manabu, her husband of nearly 50 years; and her daughter, Kimiko Ann.
The Memorial Service for Tomiko May Fukuda will be held at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 1 p.m. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Nariaki Hayashi of the Ekoji Buddhist Temple. In lieu of flowers or a memorial donation to the family (okoden), you may give to a charitable or religious organization of your choice in Tomi’s memory.
