I know Zewde to be gentle, soft spoken. Never seems to rush or say more than needed. More than anything, his eyes always expressed deep Love for and Pride in his children. My personal best "visual memory" that I can never shake is how happy and proud he looked at the Father-Daughter dance with Mamé.
We were all so lucky to have known him and loved him.  
May he rest in Peace.

To the dear family of Zewde, we convey our deepest condolences to the dear wife and family of Zewde.  We were so happy that when they came to visit their daughter in the Sultanate of Oman, who is our close family friend, that they very kindly took the time to drive quite far to visit the eldest person in our family - “hababa” ( our dear mother , mother in law and grandmother).  We never forgot this touching gesture from such a lovely gentleman and his wife.  We pass our sincerest condolences to all members of the family, those we met who also visited their sister in Oman and all their siblings, spouses and families.  We were very happy to participate in remembering Zewde in watching the live service, from far across the skies in Oman.  May his soul Rest In Peace and the family have the strength to bear this sad loss.  From Salim, Salma all our daughters and son and all ‘hababa’s’  family members.

I have known Gashe Zewde all my life. He was a father figure to  me. Specially after I joined Ethiopian Airlines I  became very close to him as  I seeked his advice, guidance  and mentorship.  I remember once after work we saw each other at the parking lot and we were chatting when one of the executives was walking to his car he greeted both of us and left. The  next day I ran into the guy  and he asked “how did you know Zewde?” I said he is my uncle, he asked on your mother’s side or your father’s? I said well, his wife Etye Elsa is my mom’s younger sister. He said that doesn’t make him your uncle.  That was the day I found out that if you are not related by blood you can’t refer a person by that title. Blood or no blood to this day I call him my uncle and he was the best Uncle.   When I got married he was living in Abudhabi he flew to Ethiopia Just to attend my weeding, I will not forget the joy I felt when I saw him,  his presence made my weeding very special. His Unconditional love for his children and my Aunt;  respect and dedication for his extended family can’t be expressed in words. 

Rest in Eternal Paradise Gashe Zewde, you have left a big hole that nothing or no one can ever  fill, you will always live in my heart.   


I was very fortunate to meet Zewde and his dearest wife Elizabeth while I was on a visit to Addis Ababa back in 2016 and again when they visited the beautiful Sultanate of Oman a couple of years later. It was indeed an honour and a pleasure for me to meet such gentle and kind elders from the kind of generation who we take the best example from today; such generation who worked so very very hard to support their families while bringing with them beacons of light shining from their exemplary manners, tolerance and strong faith.  Although our meetings were not long, the impression left imprinted on my heart is never ending and today it was with deep sadness that I watched from afar, all the way in Oman, the beautiful  live service honouring such a wonderful man.  I cherish the memories of our meetings and extend my condolences to his dearest wife and all his family.  May his soul rest in eternal peace and prayers for him continue to pass down through the next generations.   Ameen.  Lynne.  💛🧡💚
