

Dawn D. Poirier went to her rest in Christ early Monday morning June 4, 2012 at her home in Skowhegan, Maine surrounded by her loving and devoted family. The daughter of Mildred and Earl Wendell Davis, Dawn was born on May 20, 1932 in Skowhegan, Maine. She graduated from Skowhegan High School Bloomfield Academy in 1951. Dawn married the handsome love of her life Frank E. Poirier, Jr. of Skowhegan, Maine in 1952. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September.
While raising her children Dawn worked as a seamstress. Sewing was a much-loved hobby for Dawn. She spent many loving hours at her sewing machine making clothes for all the many children in her life. Dawn was a licensed social worker and parent educator for over twenty years for Somerset, Franklin, and Androscoggin Counties. During the course of her career she had the opportunity to minister to hundreds of families throughout the state of Maine. Upon retiring Dawn continued ministering to the community through Hospice work.
Dawn was a member of the Norridgewock Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was very involved in her church community working for many years in the small group ministry, women’s ministry, health ministry, prayer ministry and teaching vacation bible school. Up until her last days Dawn continued to minister to those around her sharing with all her love for Jesus.
Dawn is survived by her husband Frank “Frankie” Poirier. Together they had five “precious” children, daughter Wendy A. Belanger and husband Roger, son Frank “Joe” Poirier and wife Barbara, son Michael C. Poirier and wife Deborah, daughter Cindy M. Beckner and husband Timothy, and son Timothy C. Poirier and wife Lori. She was affectionately known as Meme by her ten “perfect” grandchildren, seven grandchildren in-laws, and ten great grandchildren. Dawn is survived by three of her five sisters Doreen Parent of Fairbanks, Alaska, Darlene Cropley and husband Norman Cropley of Skowhegan, Maine, and Dollis Jones and husband Leroy Jones of Waldoboro, Maine. Dawn was predeceased by her parents Mildred and Earl Wendell Davis and her two sisters Daphlyn Ingraham and Dail Starbird. Dawn is also survived by her beloved nieces, nephews, her many adopted “children” and her church family.
A memorial service is planned for 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7th at the Norridgewock Seventh Day Adventist Church at 30 Upper Main Street, Norridgewock, Maine followed by a reception at the church.
The Family extends a warm thank you to Dawn’s home health care worker Glenice McKechnie as well as the Hospice volunteers and nurses, especially Danyelle, for their dedicated care and friendship. Also a special thank you to Sandy Neubauer a beloved, adopted granddaughter.
