She was born November 20, 1924 in Athens, Maine, the daughter of Harvey C. Hayden Sr., and Della (Smith) Sidell.
She married Earland H. Rowell on August 9, 1945 in Athens, Maine, he passed away in 2007.
In the early 1940's Freda worked at the Arbor Colony Inn in South Harpswell. Freda worked at the Skowhegan Woolen Mill, making uniforms and blankets for the soldiers in WWII. In 1956, Freda and Earland took bought Harold Batcher's grocery route delivering merchandise to outlying towns and eventually settled their business at their home in 1972 and operated Rowell's General Store until 1999.
Freda was on the board of the Athens Union Church. She liked to go for rides, eat out, watch "Family Feud", loved spending time with her great-grandchildren. She loved her cat Charlie, and she loved spending time with her family. She kept a journal faithfully every day. She received the Boston Post Cane in 2016. Camp at Ironbound was a special getaway on warm afternoons where she liked to escape with a Danielle Stelle Book, and take a nap.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Corson of Athens; her brother, Glen Hayden and his wife Viola of Skowhegan, her sister Christie Littlefield and her husband Elwin of Hartland;, her brother Harvey Hayden and his wife Mary Sue of Farmington; two grandchildren, Curi Poulin and his wife November of Cornville and their son John, Jessica Franzose and her husband Mark of Athens and their daughter Corrina; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Fern Hayden.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Skowhegan Federated Church, Island Ave., Skowhegan, Maine, burial will follow at the Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens, Maine. Per request of the family you are welcome to stop by Freda and Dianne's home, 38 Hartland Rd., Athens, Maine from on Monday October 22, 2018 4 to 7 p.m. Feel free to stop by at your convenience.
