

She was born on November 18, 1958 in Skowhegan, the daughter of Jean Paul and Marie (Quirion) Fortin.
She was a graduate of Skowhegan Area High School class of 1977.
On June 24, 1978, she married Wayne Burnham, the love of her life. Together they raised their son Jason.
Joan worked for many years with Skowhegan Savings Bank. More recently she thoroughly enjoyed working at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary School.
Joan loved to travel; spending time with family especially her grandchildren Benjamin, Thomas Jay and Mariah; and enjoying her pool; relaxing at her home; celebrations for her nieces Randi, Whitney and Jill’s accomplishments.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Wayne in 1997, her father Jean Paul, her mother in-law Stella Heil, Uncle Jean Quirion and Aunt Marie Roy.
Joan is survived by her mother Marie Fortin, her son Jason, step-daughter Sunshine, grandchildren Benjamin, Thomas Jay, Mariah, her sisters Mona Fortier, Michelle Fortin, her brothers Steven (Penny) Fortin, Mark (Crystal) Fortin, many aunts, uncles and cousins including her uncle Val Roy and Raenette and Gaetane LaBlanc, her special friends Randy and Nancy Lancaster, and Joe Fortier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water Street, Skowhegan, Maine with a burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
