Born January 10, 1931 in Hopewell, AK, Mary was the daughter of Elmer and Clifford (Harrison) Wooten.
Separated in her youth from her 3 younger siblings, Mary dedicated many of her adult years to searching for them. The family reunited in 1999 after nearly a half century of separation. Their story was featured in the Morning Sentinel on June 29, 2001. Mary also searched for, and celebrated a reunion with, her daughter Guinda who was lost to her for thirty years.
Mary began work in the cotton fields as a child and continued working at a variety of jobs throughout her life, but she is best remembered for her welcome hospitality, her persistently cheerful outlook, her glorious gardens – both vegetable and flower, her beloved doll collection and the quilts she created.
Mary is survived by two daughters – Guinda Reeves of Belton, MO and Deanne Moore of East Hampton, CT, and four sons – Victor Moore of East Haddam, CT, Robert Moore (Mary) of New London, CT, Mark Moore (April) of East Haddam, CT, and Kendrick Moore (Sharon) of Cleveland, NC; nine grandchildren – Chris, Jeremy, Philip, Jen, Jessie, Amber, Mark, Melissa and Wayne; three step-grandchildren – Heather, Jennifer and Kathryn; and by 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dean Alliston Moore of Skowhegan, by her former husband, Leonard N.C. Reeves of Kansas City, MO and by two infant children – Carlotta Reeves and Wayne Moore.
Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband Dean and son Wayne in Skowhegan, Maine on Friday July 26, 2013.
