He was born August 13, 1931 in Saugus, Massachusetts, the son of Robert Hugh Corson and Bessie Lillian Stevens.
Bob attended schools in Norridgewock and Madison, graduating from Madison High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 – 1955 aboard the Charles R. Ware DD865.
He married Olive in 1953 and recently celebrated their 65th anniversary.
He started work for CMP after his discharge from the service and was part of the original crew at the steam plant on Cousins Island in Yarmouth for 9 years. He became a boiler and machinery engineer for Commercial Union Ins. Co. He was very proud of passing his National Board Exams. He then went on to work for United Aircraft in Vernon, Ct, where he was the first engineer without a college degree to cover all the facilities. He inspected wind tunnels, tanks, and boilers at Pratt Whitney and Sikorsky and all branches of what is now United Technologies.
Upon moving back to Maine, his territory encompassed many paper mills, schools, etc. Making sure all safety regulations were followed.
His carpentry skills were truly remarkable…. Building many additions and lovely homes in Sidney and Smithfield.
His hobbies were numerous, and as all who were close to him knew, he was a perfectionist and then some! Known as “The Mustang Man” by many, you can be assured the cars were all in perfect running order, gleaming and ready for car shows. He was a Civil War enthusiast and enjoyed many trips to Gettysburg, Carlisle and Antietam. Golf trips and car shows were numerous and shared with special friends, many who were made while staying at B&B’s throughout New England.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Reggie Corson and his sister Betty French.
He is survived by his wife, Olive; his daughter, Judy Higgins and her husband Mark; his son Rob Corson and his significant other Donna Megilll; his granddaughters, Shaye Paradis and her husband Wayne and Jennifer Corson; his grandson, Daniel Corson; his great-grandchildren, Eliza and Lucas Paradis, Karlee and Kingsley Corson; his brother-in-law, Dick French; his sister-in-law, Deloris Corson; his nephew, Goff French and his wife Linda; his niece, Hope Perkins and her husband Phil; and his extended family, Brian and Almeda Haines, Sharon Wood and Phil Sevigny, Anders Lovendahl and family.
“Thank You” to Smithfield Fire and Rescue Department and Delta, who were always there for us, especially the EMT’s who were so considerate and helpful. Also, our thanks to MGMC in Augusta, Dr. Don Strickland, Dr. Dan Hammond and the Home Care nurses that tended to Bob.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Norridgewock Baptist Church, 22 Main St., Norridgewock, Maine, with Pastor Earle Meola officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
