

Charles H. Roberts, longtime Austinite, retired coach, teacher and guidance counselor for Austin ISD died March 27, 2011 at Hearthstone Medical Center as a result of complications due to Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born Feb 17, 1937 in Temple, Texas, the oldest child of Edna and Curtis Roberts. On August 23, 1958 he married Bess Ann Glenn of Smithville, Texas.
Charles graduated from Columbus High School and attended Blinn College and Sam Houston State on athletic scholarships. He graduated in 1960 with a B.S. in Education and received his Masters in Education from Southwest Texas State in 1970, and his Counselor’s Certification in 1976.
He loved all sports but especially track and field. Affectionately called, “the Voice of Austin ISD Track”, his voice was the one you heard on the P.A. system at numerous track meets, basketball games and tournaments as well as state baseball playoffs. He loved watching his son and daughter compete in their athletic endeavors and as long as his health permitted he enjoyed watching his three grandsons.
He is survived by Bess Roberts, former wife and always friend; his son Glenn C. Roberts and wife, Lisa of Round Rock, Texas. Daughter, Sheri Pollock and husband, Charley of Duncan, Oklahoma. Three grandsons, James Roberts of Round Rock, Texas, Kyle Roberts of Waco, Texas and Cody Pollock of Duncan, Oklahoma. His sister, Connie Adams and her husband Don Adams of Abilene, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Curtis Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home, 104 Olive Street, Smithville, TX, 78957 at 11 A.M. on Thursday, March 31, 2011. Family visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville.
Pallbearers are James Roberts, Kyle Roberts, Cody Pollock, Charley Pollock, Lance Reissig and Robert Wallace. Honorary pallbearers are B. J. Wolf, Tommy Cox, Johnny Harbour, Bobby Wilkes, David Wilkes, Duane Adams, Robert Kern, Allen Ashlock and coaching and golfing buddies.
The family would like to express our appreciation to Thomas Hill, MD and his staff for many years of professional care and compassion, to Emeritus Assisting Living on Duval, and to Hearthstone Medical Center.
