Buffi Allene Hillier-Grubert was born in Seattle on March 4, 1967 to Al and Lynn Hillier. She had one younger brother Barrett who passed away when he was 15 years old. The entire family, including Buffi, took his death very hard.
Growing up she loved her horses and animals. She played piano and violin during her teen years. She graduated from Shorewood High School in 1985.
After graduating high school she attended Edmonds College and Bellevue College and finally joined the U.S. Navy in 1987.
During her stint in the U.S. Navy, Buffi did two tours of the Philippines, a tour in Indonesia and she spent some time in the Middle East. She was assigned various roles, including that of Legal Assistant. She earned her “Qualified Helmsman of USS Samuel Gompers” She was very proud of her service in the Navy.
After returning to civilian life, she started in as a Flight Attendant for Mark Air, then went to work for Pro Air and Corporate Inflight, a private jet company where she was often the lead flight attendant for corporate executives and A-list celebrity passengers. She was known among her customers for being vivacious and fun, with attention to service detail.
She met Steve Grubert, then a pilot at Pro Air. They were married in October of 2001.
After Peyton was born in October 2003, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She always expressed how immensely proud she was of her daughter.
Buffi loved every sort of season holiday celebration, with her very favorite possibly being the Fall and Harvest season. Every Autumn she decorated the home with hay bales, pumpkins, corn stalks and gourds.
She will be remembered for her love of bangles and bling. She loved the color Pink. She loved Disney and collected hundreds of ceramic Minnie and Mickey figurines and kept them in a lit curio cabinet.
Buffi will be remembered for her bubbly personality, her sense of humor and sharp wit. Around children, she will also be remembered for her silly childlike playful ways. If there was a baby in the room she had to hold it. She was the life of the party. She “woke up” the room. Her friends said that “everything started” when she came into a room.
Above all, Buffi will be remembered for her love of her family and her friends.
