Bette was born on April 30th, 1932 in Beach, North Dakota to Harry and Catherine Sites.
She moved to Washington State in the late 1930s and graduated from Snohomish High
School in 1950, the same year she married James (Jim) L. Ingalls. The family lived in Seattle,
Anchorage, Los Gatos (CA), and Edmonds before settling in Snohomish in 1966, where all
six of their children finished school. Bette loved to participate in all aspects of her childrens’
lives including sporting events, band concerts, and school fundraisers. Although they
divorced in the late 1970s, Bette and Jim remained close friends and enjoyed many
gatherings with family and “chosen family”.
As her kids got older, Bette worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for the Snohomish
Tribune, Schoolhouse Antiques, and Snohomish Medical Clinic. Throughout her time in
Snohomish, she was an active member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church as well as a
regular volunteer with the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce at events such as Kla-Ha-Ya
Days and the Easter Parade. Bette loved to entertain. She enjoyed her bridge and pinochle
groups, and loved to host parties during the holidays. Bette was warm-hearted, and she was
happy to befriend everyone she met.
