

Herbert Wesley Courtney Sr. passed peacefully in his sleep on November 23, 2015. He was born on September 17, 1919 to Randolph and Ida Courtney in Kinsale, Va. Herb served in WWII as crew chief on B-17s. While at Boeing in Seattle, WA he met and married Olga Salvadalena. Together they raised six children in the Snohomish, Wash. area. Herb and Olga later lived in different areas in the state including Republic, Tonasket, Wenatchee, but ended up again in Snohomish. Herb was an exemplary husband and father. Herb was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 69 years. He enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball. He always felt he could have had a career in baseball if the war hadn't interfered. He was an avid golfer and always enjoyed a good game of cards. Up to the very end he played a poker game weekly at the Sr. Center and often won the pot. In his later years Herb found new love and companionship in Barty Jean Pinkham. They were married for an adventure filled year before she passed away. Herb was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Olga, his wife, Barty; two brothers and two sisters. He leaves his children Ken (Sheri) Courtney of Saratoga, Calif., Jeanne (Jim) Connor of Republic, Deb (Phil) Anderson of Ocean Park, Wash., Teresa (Loren) Bogart of La Conner, Wash., Herb Courtney Jr. of Everett, Michael (Wanda) Courtney of South Carolina and sister, Annie Headley of Lottsburg, Va. as well as 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Viewing and Rosary will be Thursday, December 3, 2015, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Bauer Funeral Home, 701 1st St. in Snohomish. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, at 11:00 a.m. at St Michael's Catholic Church, 1512 Pine Ave. in Snohomish. The family wishes to express special thanks to Country Care Adult Home for their loving care. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Snohomish Senior Center.
