

Lois Bertha Raben Sorensen was born in Clearfield, South Dakota on December 22, 1924. She was the firstborn child of Carl and Lillian Raben. She entered Heaven's gates on April 10, 2016, with her family lovingly surrounding her. A consummate mother, Lois was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends and for those in need through the Community Kitchen. She especially looked forward to preparing her weekly "tasty desserts" for her Rosary group. Lois graduated from Monroe High School and was also an avid sports fan when the game involved her beloved Mariners or Seahawks. Lois had an unwavering and deep faith in God. She was a member of St. Michael Church in Snohomish. Over the years, she became very involved with the church and interaction with her church family was steadfast and brought meaningful joy and pleasure to her life. Lois was very active in family gatherings, she loved to travel to sunny Arizona and Mexico, and enjoyed boat rides on the Snohomish river with her grandchildren. She married Ernest Thorval Sorensen on September 15, 1944 in Monroe, Wash. He preceded her in death in 2007. Lois was also preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lillian; daughter, Billie Jo Tapert Wright; and sisters, Mardella Nelson, Billie Mae Nelson Manning, and Carlene McCarthy. She is survived by her children: Kandace Harvey-Stiffler (Philip), Sam Sorensen (Linda), Rick Sorensen, Shawn Haugen (Rick), Christi Otness (Art), and Heather Matthews (Paul) as well as her cherished siblings, a sister, Elaine Simon of Sultan, and a brother Ron Raben of Lacey. Lois is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul or Catholic Community Services.
