Orlo was born in Tyler, Minnesota to Niels and Christine Ostergaard on January 28, 1926. He grew up on a farm in Tyler, Minnesota with four siblings, Arden, Andrea, Edna and twin brother Orval. After graduating from high school he and Orval joined the Army. Upon being discharged from the military they both moved to Everett, Washington where they lived with their sister Andrea and her family. While in Everett Orlo met Shirley Rozell, they fell in love and were married in a double ceremony with brother Orval and his bride Maryann.
Orlo and Shirley moved to Kelso, Washington, where son David was born. They returned to Everett where son Terry and daughter Karen were born. Orlo and Shirley were married 25 years before her untimely passing in 1973.
Orlo worked at Simpson Lee Paper Company and Kimberly-Clark as a millwright, there wasn't anything he couldn't fix or build. While at Simpson Lee he was credited with saving the life of a fellow worker.
In 1975 he met and married Shirley Klein. After retiring, they settled in Mesa, AZ. He enjoyed his retirement with family and friends. He loved golf, played several times a week, threw horseshoes and remained active into his mid 80’s. They lived a long and happy life in Mesa before moving back to Snohomish, WA where they resided at Emeritus Assisted Living.
Orlo was very active in his Community and Church his entire life. All who knew him talked of his mischievous smile, great laugh and blue eyes.
He is survived by sons; David (Chris); Terry (Peggy); and daughter Karen (Jerry) Barhanovich; step daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Cooper and Sharon Klein; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and close nephew Dan (Marcia) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by parents; Niels & Christine; his 4 siblings; wives Shirley Marie and Shirley Eileen; and nephew Neil Johnsen.
Special thanks to the staff at Emeritus Assisted Living for the love and care they gave our Dad; Pastor Diana, Pastor Jocelyn, Clara, and Mary for visiting and providing his spiritual care and Providence Hospice for their care at the close of his life.
