Louis Iannicello, 78, of Lakeland, passed away Saturday. Born in Solvay, he was a 1951 graduate of Solvay High School and earned his Masters Degree from Syracuse University. While at SU, he lettered in football, boxing and lacrosse. He was a teacher and coach at both West Genesee and Solvay Schools. He also was a teacher and administrator in Old Bridge, NJ, and Superintendent of Schools in Tinton Falls, NJ before retiring in 1996. Louis was a US Army Veteran, a member of the Solvay Bearcat Pride, Historical Society, SU Varsity Football Alumni, Solvay Tyrol Club, Friday Coffee group, West Genesee Booster Club, Geddes Vet’s, Hilltop Club, Solvay Tigers AC and a former board of director of the Solvay-Geddes Community Youth Center. He enjoyed traveling all over the world, playing golf, visiting casinos, attending SU, West Genesee, Solvay and all family sporting events and concerts. He was predeceased by his parents, Donato and Antoinette (Spagnoletti) Iannicello, 2 brothers, Anthony and Nicholas, and 2 sisters, M. Carmella Doran and Mary Rose Barnello.
He is survived by 2 sisters; Josephine Marascalchi and Mary Haley, 2 brothers; Daniel (Agnes) and Mario Iannicello, a brother-in-law; Dominic Barnello, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his longtime friend; Dr. Joan George.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:15 am Thursday in BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9 am at St. Cecilia Church, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Resurrection Mausoleum, DeWitt. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, 2601 Milton Avenue.
