Margaret A. Simko, 91, of Solvay, passed away Wednesday at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born in Mt. Pleasant, PA, she lived in Syracuse most of her life. Margaret was a cafeteria aide for the West Genesee School District for 13 years, and worked in the kitchen at the Bridge Street Tavern, where she was known as “Aunt Mickey”. She was also an Avon representative for over 47 years. She was a communicant of St Cecilia Church, an avid bowler and took on the role of a caretaker for family and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Paul and a son Gregory.
She is survived by a daughter, Michealina (Charles) Mashaw, of Solvay, a son, Paul (Barbara) Simko, of Syracuse, 3 sisters, Theresa Deemer, of Memphis, Ann Fabrizio, of Solvay and Marie Beran, of Mt Pleasant, PA, 3 brothers, John “Greenie”, Joseph and Ramon Grossi, all of Syracuse, 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:15 am Tuesday in BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, Solvay, and 9 am at St Cecilia Church, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 pm Monday at the funeral home, 2601 Milton Avenue.
