

Richard R. Balduzzi, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday August 7, 2013 at James Square Health and Rehabilitation Centre. He was born in Solvay to the late Pietro and Adelaide Balduzzi in 1925. He was a US Air Force Veteran and lifetime member of the Solvay-Geddes Veterans Association. Richard operated the original family store on Darrow Ave. in Solvay until 1952, when he and his sister Mary opened the first Balduzzi’s supermarket on Milton Ave. In the early 1960’s, he moved into a larger store. In addition to the Solvay store, he owned, operated and served as president of a number of other Big M’s in the Syracuse area. He was a communicant of St. Cecilia Church. Richard was predeceased by his son, Peter in 1999 and his brother, Lewis.
He is survived by his daughter, Maria (Brooks) Eden, of Paoli, PA, daughter-in-law, Linda Balduzzi Younger, of Scottsdale, AZ, 4 grandchildren, Brooks David Eden, Jr., of Arlington, VA, Laura Catherine Eden, of Philadelphia, PA, Anthony M. Balduzzi, of Scottsdale, AZ and Nicholas P. Balduzzi, of Scottsdale, AZ, a sister, Mary B. Giemza, of Camillus, 2 former wives, Mary L. Balduzzi, of Syracuse and Mary Elizabeth Grygiel, of Baldwinsville, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 am in St. Cecilia Church, 1001 Woods Rd., Solvay. There are no calling hours. BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME has care of arrangements.
