Gilbert J. Nadeau, Sr., age 94, of Somerset, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the Atria Woodbriar Park in Falmouth. He was the loving husband of Mary E. (Burke) Nadeau to whom he had been married for 72 years.
Mr. Nadeau was born in Fall River, the son of the late Joseph H. and Grace A. (Ingham) Nadeau. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees.
Gilbert was employed with Stop & Shop for 35 years until his retirement in 1982 as a District Manager. He was also the former owner and operator of the Riverside Social Club & Restaurant in Riverside, RI. He then went on to run the kitchen at the Touisset Country Club and owned a catering business with his close friend, Gary Sirois.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Segregansett Country Club in Taunton and was a member of the VFW Post 8500 in Somerset. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Honorable Gilbert J. Nadeau, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Fall River, Atty. Stephen C. Nadeau, Sr. and his wife Molly of West Barnstable and Gail M. Nadeau of Falmouth; four grandchildren, Atty. Genevieve C. Nadeau, Chantal E. Kokaram and her husband Ryan, Atty. Stephen C. Nadeau, Jr. and Kathleen R. Tieu and her husband Michael; four great-grandchildren, Lisette and Isla Kokaram and Dylan and Connor Tieu as well as five Burke nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 9:00 AM from Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gilbert’s honor may be made to St. Thomas More Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
