Chris became a great friend to me. I don't quite remember when I first met Chris. I do remember that Joe Duarte, his son in-law, who he loved very much introduced him to me in my office at work. Joe being Joe, as we know him, left Chris in my office and went into the showroom and tried to buy a car for nothing, or pretty close to that anyway. Not knowing anything about this person that Joe left in my office other than he was Joe's father in-law, we started talking. Since Joe was the topic for awhile, we both then came to the agreement that Joe was one of a kind. I began to learn about Chris.
The more we talked and learned about each other, the more I started to feel that there was something special about him. The first impression was "This is a tough guy. " At least that was the way it came across.
A retired Police Officer, YUP, he is a tough guy. By the time he left my office I had a great feeling about him. As time went by, we became closer and closer. He became a great friend, a great pal, a great buddy. I always enjoyed the times we spent together, and listening to his stories of his past. As he became ill, and more dependent on others, I could see it in him, that he felt uncomfortable . Chris Duarte was a very proud man . For the years that I knew him, he became known to me as "The Toughest Guy with the Softest Heart." A very giving person. I Love you, I am going to miss you buddy.

To the Family of Chris Duarte,
We are so sorry for your loss. Chris has been a dear friend over many, many years. Back in the day, Brian and I would go out every Saturday night with Chris and Pauline and go dancing at the Narrows, which is now LePages. We would get babysitters and off we could go to enjoy an evening of fun. Then, on a sadder note, Chris was the police officer on duty the day my Dad had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he would die that evening. Chris was a calming influence to our family that day. Then later that week, he and Pauline offered their condolences at my father’s wake. How special that was to see such good friends. We are so grateful we were blessed with Chris and Pauline’s friendship.

RIP, Jim.....will ALWAYS remember your kindnesses to Pauline . Following her illness , I remember our lunch meetings at the Grille, and going together, the 4 of us, Ed and i, and you and Pauline to therapy. Then to lunch. You are beside her now , and though you will be missed here, you are at peace forever. Bless you !

Chris was a good neighbor, friend, husband and father, but more importantly, a good man. He will be sorely missed in our small neighborhood and community, a person who would always have a smile, a hearty laugh, and good conversation. Rest In Peace, Chris, and may the rest of your journey be fulfilling.
