James H. “Jim” Sullivan, age 89, of Somerset, passed away November 6, 2012 in Catholic Memorial Home. He was the husband of Dorothy “Dot” (Sisson) Sullivan for the past 32 years and the late Loretta (Kiley) Sullivan. Born in Fall River, son of the late James H. and Anna L. (Smith) Sullivan, he was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1942, and a United States Marine Corps Veteran, having served during World War II. Mr. Sullivan was a member of the Marine Corps League in Somerset for many years. Jim was a Printer at the Fall River Herald News for 35 years, retiring in 1986, and was the president of the Fall River Typographical Union for over 25 years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church where he was a member of the Seniors Club and was the president of the Senior Club at the former Our Lady of Fatima Church for over 20 years, organizing trips throughout the area. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, square dancing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters; Mary Sandra Sullivan of Fall River and Joyce Sullivan of Tiverton, RI, three stepsons, Dennis J. Sullivan USN (ret) and his wife Joan of Sedona, AZ, David Sullivan and his wife Diana of New Bedford, MA and Douglas Sullivan and his wife Nancy of Somerset, two stepdaughters; Donna M. Sullivan of Somerset and Dale Francis and her husband Ron of Raynham, MA, a sister; Margaret M. Pimentel of Fall River, extended family William and Janet McAndrew of Little Compton, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Rev. Walter A., Dennis J. and John J. Sullivan, Anne Marie Collins and Mary Agnes Lachapelle. His funeral will held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County St., Somerset followed by a funeral mass at 10AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River. Visiting hours Thursday from 4PM-7PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to St. Thomas More Church or to Toys for Tots, c/o the Marine Corps League, 649 Almy Rd., Somerset, MA 02726.
