Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Homer Lebeau and Claire (Marchessault) Lebeau.
After graduating from Bishop Stang High School, Joanne graduated first in her class from Boston’s Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing. She then achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from UMass Dartmouth, a Master’s Degree from Salve Regina College and a degree in Advanced Nursing Studies from the University of Rhode Island, culminating in a Certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Joanne worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Fall River’s Early Intervention Program for developmentally delayed children, and as Lead Nurse in a very innovative program in Rhode Island specializing in the treatment of babies born with HIV. For many years she then worked as a Nurse Practitioner with a pediatrics specialty at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Her true passion was caring for children.
Throughout her life and upon retirement, she was happiest when spending time with her family and she especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She never missed a sporting event, school ceremony or birthday celebration. She enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling and relaxing with family and friends in both Massachusetts and Florida, where she spent her winters.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald Rebello (Somerset), son Keith Rebello (Somerset), daughter Kara (Rebello) Grew and her husband Daniel Grew (Somerset), grandson Samuel Grew, granddaughter Anastasia Grew, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Avow Hospice Center in Naples, FL. Their kindness, compassion and support brought peace and comfort to Joanne and her family in her final days.
