Born in Fall River, the son of the late Edward and Christina (Raposa) Stevens, he was a lifelong Fall River resident. John was a graduate of Coyle High School and Bryant College. He was employed as a Financial Assistance Social Worker with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years. He was the past president and coach of the former Milliken Basketball League in Fall River and an avid civil war buff.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lea S. Amorin and her husband Paul; a son, Shawn M. Stevens; four grandchildren, Jordan P. Amorin and his wife Melissa, Jonathan Stevens, Olivia L. Amorin and Matthew Stevens; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Catholic Memorial Home for the care they provided John throughout his stay.
His funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 9:30 AM in the chapel at Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Avenue, Fall River, MA 02720. Relatives and friends are invited. Arrangements are in the care of WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at ROSE E. SULLIVAN in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to support Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association’s Hospice program.
