Joshua Ryan Pereira, “Canada,” age 31, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at his home in Somerset. Born in Strathroy, Ontario, Canada a son of Joe and Maria Liset (Almeida) Pereira he was a longtime resident of Somerset.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps he served during the Iraq War. Most recently, Josh met the needs of the demanding job of Correctional Officer at Department of Corrections in West Bridgewater. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage and, of the fact that the first time he was pulled over by the police, both his parents were in the car with him. A Volkswagen enthusiast, he enjoyed working on and fixing up his GTI. A hockey fan, his favorite team was the Toronto Maple Leafs while his favorite dessert was a chocolate brownie. He was a helpful person who was very loyal to his friends and his eight years of marriage. Joshua enjoyed and looked forward to his yearly road trips with his parents to visit Canada and spend time with his grandparents and family.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Duarte and Maria Adelaide Almeida; paternal grandparents, Maria Rosarinha Pereira, and the late Manuel Pereira: aunt and godmother, Loriann Almeida; uncle and godfather, Alvaro Almeida and his wife Kelly Burgess; uncles, John Pereira and his partner Russene Tatara and Kevin Almeida, cousins, John Matthew Pereira, Alyssa Almeida and Keegan Clarke, his godson, Lucas Wilbur, father-in-law, Brad Cowen and mother-in-law, Lisa Cowen.
His visitation will be held Friday, July 3, 2020 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset. Due to current restrictions, the funeral service will be private and we ask for your patience as you may need to wait to come in to pay your respects.
