Betsy L. McCague

Born in New Bedford daughter of the late Fred Caton, Sr. and the late Mary ( Watson) Caton , she was a lifelong New Bedford resident. She received her Registered Nursing degree from Bristol Community College and had received her LPN from Lemuel Shattuck Hospital.

She had been a RN at St. Luke’s Hospital for 25 years retiring in 2007. Prior to that she had been a Nurse at Taber St. Nursing Home for 19 years.

An active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Betsy had been a long time Vestry member, former member of the choir and she was known for her wonderful Pancake suppers and baking scones for all the church events.

She enjoyed her outings with “The Girls” and in her earlier years camping with her family.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A son: James W. McCague and his girlfriend Deb Martin of New Bedford

2 daughters: Anne M. Benevides and her husband James of New Bedford, Ellen McCague and her partner Theresa Murray of New Bedford

5 grandchildren: Cheryl Benevides, Matthew Benevides and his girlfriend Jamie Gifford, Melissa Benevides-Vieira and her husband Emanuel, Tyler J. McCague and his wife Emily and Zachary J. McCague

2 great-grandchildren: Zoe Medeiros and Cameron Benevides

She was the sister of the late Fred Caton, Jr.
