Carol B. Billick Shinnamon

Carol (Billick) Shinnamon, 65, of Dartmouth, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston following a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Larry Shinnamon with whom she shared 44 years of marriage.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, a daughter of Aldean (Wood) Billick and the late Clare Billick, she had resided in Dartmouth for over 35 years.

Mrs. Shinnamon received her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from West Virginia University. She was employed as a travel agent for Westport Travel for several years.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family, especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted longtime member of the Smith Mills Congregational Church where she was treasurer of the nursery school for 30 years. Through Relay for Life, Carol spent much time raising money and awareness for cancer research. In her leisure time, she enjoyed quilting, tennis and playing bridge.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Christopher Shinnamon and his wife Kathleen of New Bedford; a daughter, Brooke Tempesta and her husband Rob of Westwood; two brothers, Dick Billick and Ken Billick and his wife Pat; two sisters, Kathie Wineman and her husband Lonnie and Doris Dunaway and her husband Chuck; five grandchildren, C.J. Shinnamon, Abby Hilling, Jaime Shinnamon, Sophia and Rocco Tempesta; a brother-in-law, Lou Shinnamon; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 6-9pm in the Smith Mills Congregational Church, 11 Anderson Way, N. Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11am in the Smith Mills Congregational Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
