

Our beloved father, Charles F. Cafferty, Sr., passed away New Year’s Day, one day before his 98th birthday. Husband of the late Olive M. Ireson (Smith) Cafferty, and the late Mildred M. (Foley) Cafferty, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his children, Charles F. Cafferty Jr. and his wife Mary Ellen, Susan J. Crook and her husband Steven, Joanne M. Jones (late husband Paul), Bridget M. Cafferty, James F. Cafferty and his wife Anne-Marie, Patrick J. Cafferty and his wife Christine. Also, survived by his late wife’s children, Nancy L. (Smith) Gaudette and her husband Louis, Pamela M. (Smith) Patenaude and her husband Allen, Elizabeth A. (Smith) Bochman and her husband Robert, Marietta (Smith) Taylor and her husband Robert, and Russell D. Smith, Jr., and his wife Victoria. His legacy also included 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Charlie was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1936. He served in the Navy during WW2 in the Naval Air and was honorably discharged. He was Chief Petty Officer and earned the WW2 Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic/Pacific Medal, American Defense Medal and the American Area Medal. He was employed by the New Bedford Housing Authority as a Maintenance Foreman until his retirement in 1982. According to his wishes, he will be cremated and buried with Military Honors at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts at a later date.Arrangements under the direction of Dartmouth Funeral Home, Dartmouth, MA.
