Rick, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was marked by love, dedication, selflessness, and a slew of terrible Dad jokes. He was known for his hardworking nature, infectious sense of humor, kindness, and ability to fix anything.
His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many others whose lives he touched. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the deep impact it had on the lives of those who had the good fortune to know him.
Those who knew Rick will remember him for his infectious smile and booming laughter, and his unwavering commitment to family, friends, and anyone who needed a helping hand or something fixed. He had a rare gift for leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Rick was born in Brockton and was a proud graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School. He later moved to Bourne, MA, where he raised his family. Eventually meeting the love of his life, his wife Elizabeth, they settled into Dartmouth where they built a wonderful life surrounded by family and friends.
Rick’s passion for his work and the close friendships he made over 35 years in the furniture industry were great sources of joy in his life. He spent over 25 years working for Jordan's Furniture, where he was well-respected for his dedication, hard work, and skill.
Above all, Rick loved his family. His greatest job was being ‘Dad’ to his three children and ‘Grandpa’ to his three grandchildren, whom he got to hug, love, and hear call him Grandpa. He was happiest when surrounded by his wife and family, especially on a sunny afternoon with a craft beer in hand.
Rick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and his children: Tyler Johnson and his wife Samantha of Belmont, NH; Morgan Vitale and her husband Mike of Quincy, MA; and Cameron Johnson and his partner Christian of Elizabeth City, NC and his three beloved grandchildren: Everly, Kinsley, and Ryland Johnson.
He is also survived by his mother, Marsha Johnson; his brother Ken Johnson and his wife Andrea of New York; his brother Robert Johnson of Georgia; and his Brother-in-law Andrew Defrias and his wife Mary Ellen of Dartmouth. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Johnson, and his sister, Tracy Pasca. Rick also leaves behind many adored nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, December 1st, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home in Dartmouth, MA. A Celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, at 11 AM at the New Bedford Yacht Club in South Dartmouth, MA.
