David G. King

David King, 81, of Dartmouth, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on Sunday, April 20, 2025 after a period of declining health. He was the son of the late George and Lucille (Pedroza) King. Born in Texas during his Father’s service in the Army, he was raised in New Bedford, MA and lived in Dartmouth for nearly 50 years.

David was a 1963 graduate of New Bedford High School. He matriculated to Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in Magnolia, Arkansas, returning to New Bedford after receiving a history degree. He enjoyed his career as a Manufacturer’s Representative for over 30 years before his retirement.

David was a past member of the Rotary Club. He was also a passionate and dedicated member of the Dartmouth School Music Association, serving as Ways and Means chair for multiple years in the late 1990s. He was a devoted lifelong Red Sox and Patriot’s fan and enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and pets.

David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen (O’Gara) as well as his daughter Michelle Sylvia and son-in-law William of New Bedford. He is also survived by his brother, Russell and his wife Paula, several nieces, a nephew, extended family members and dear friends.

The King family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Oaks nursing facility in New Bedford, MA, especially those on the Elmwood Unit for the compassionate, attentive, and loving care given in the last years of David’s life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 9:00am - 10:30am in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will take place in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
