

John R. Furtado, 81 of Dartmouth formerly of Rochester passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 in Sacred Heart Home with his family at his side. He was the husband of Elaine M. (Blanchard) Furtado to whom they shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Joao and Mary (Sylvia) Furtado, John was a lifelong resident of the Southcoast. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a meat cutter at the former Fernande’s Market for 30 years.
John loved his family dearly; he was an Assessor for the Town of Dartmouth, a board member of the Dartmouth Fire Department, a board member of the financial committee, Prudential District, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel CYO and bowling league. He coached baseball, URW in the Pony League. He was an avid baseball enthusiast and New York Yankees fan. He was the former owner of the Village Market Place for 29 years, Padanaram Liquors for 19 years and PJ market for 7 years. He was also employed at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth for many years.
In addition to his wife Elaine, he is survived by his son, Timothy J. Furtado and his wife Renee of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
