

Joseph M. Ormonde, 92, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Home. He was the beloved husband of Ruby L. (Dunn) Ormonde with whom he shared 30 years of marriage. He was the former husband of the late Julia McCarthy and Mary Ormonde.
Born in Fairhaven, a son of the late Joaquim M. and Adelaide M. (Cardoza) Ormonde, he lived most of his life in Dartmouth.
Mr. Ormonde was a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II.
He had worked as a machine operator at Goodyear Tire and Rubber until his retirement. He was a highly respected supervisor for the Town of Dartmouth Park and Recreation Department for 25 years. For 50 years, Mr. Ormonde was a firefighter on the Dartmouth District 1 Fire Department. He proudly began service as a fire fighter and worked his way through the ranks to First Assistant Engineer.
Surviving in addition to his wife Ruby are three sons, Joel Ormonde of Lakeville, Joseph M. Ormonde, Jr. and his wife Leslie and Jeffrey M. Ormonde and his wife Barbara all of Dartmouth; a step-son, Kimball A. Baker, III and Karen Starvaggi and her husband William of Dartmouth; one brother, Charles Ormonde and his wife Eunice of Dartmouth; one sister, Alice Mae Bullock of St. Augustine, FL; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Francis and August Ormonde.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 3-6:30pm with a Funeral Service at 4pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Town of Dartmouth Veterans Advisory Board, 400 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02747 or Beacon Hospice, 182 North Main St., Fall River, MA 02720.
