Josephine McGinnity Roche

She spent the last years at The Cottages in N. Dartmouth, MA where she received great care. Born in Minnesota and a nursing graduate from St. Catherine’s and retired Navy Nurse.

She was married to the late Kevin J. Roche. Josephine spent most of her life in Norwell, MA and had 4 children. She worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for many years and then at Boston University Infirmary as a school nurse for 15 years where she obtained her Masters in Social Work. She continued her social work in the Quincy area and after retirement was a substitute nurse for the Boston Public school system.

She had three sons: Gregory Roche and his wife Linda, of Pike, NH, Damon Roche and his wife Marjorie of South Dartmouth, MA and Garth Roche from Atlanta, GA who passed away in September of 2021, one daughter: Megin Benassi and her husband Russ of Plympton, MA. Josephine had 6 grandchildren: Eric Roche and his wife Marissa of CT, Brett Roche of South Dartmouth, Andrea Roche recently graduated from Medical School and will be in Vermont and engaged to Andrew Pettit. Robert Balboni and fiancé Jen Nault from Hanover, MA, Vanessa Balboni engaged to Darren Leblanc of Middleboro, MA and Kevin Balboni of Kingston, MA. Josephine was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Miles and Julian Roche, Charlie and Leonardo Balboni, and Chloe and Christian Leblanc. Josephine is also survived by brother-in-laws: Ronald Roche of Fairhaven, MA, Leonardo Roche and wife Mary of New Bedford, MA and sister-in-law: Regina Rebello and husband Manny of South Dartmouth, MA. She also has many nieces and nephews in and around New Bedford, MA and in other parts of the country.

Josephine loved to cook and entertain. She was a world traveler who loved history, museums and churches and the opera. She was very kind and giving even to those she didn’t know.

We will miss her, but her memory will live long in our hearts.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life event on June 9, 2024 at the Black Bass, 3 Water Street, Dartmouth, MA from 1 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
